When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! They have seen him beaten beyond recognition, struggle to make it to the crucifixion, saw him nailed to the cross and put on public display with a sign that read, “This is the King of the Jews.” They saw him struggle to breath for six hours until he cried out in a loud voice and died. They know Joseph of Arimathea put him in a tomb so they had it sealed so Jesus’ disciples couldn’t steal the body. The sheep go to heaven and spend eternity with him but the goats are rejected from his presence for eternity! What’s the difference? The sheep did…the goats didn’t. The sheep worked for the Lord and grew his kingdom. The goats did their own thing and could care less because they didn’t have a relationship with Jesus. But as cool as that is, Jesus is better. Whatever is going on with the audience, the author of Hebrews wants their readers to know Jesus is better than the angels and he makes his case for that in chapter 1. Jesus is sitting in a place of honor at the Father’s right hand and not one time did God ever say to an angel, “This is my Son,” however, He did say that to Jesus a couple of times! Moses wanted to see God’s glory but God told him he couldn’t see His face or he would die because he was so holy. When Moses had been in the presence of God, he came down the mountain to talk to the people and they had to put a veil over him because he glowed! And so God puts on flesh and walks among His people and they can relate to him. They literally could hang out with God! They ate meals with Him, talked with Him, traveled with Him…They could literally reach out and touch God! And the author of Hebrews tells us Jesus was the radiance of God’s glory and he expresses the very character of God, and yet, we can relate to Jesus because he was one of us! He said he investigated them going all the way back to the beginning and not only that but he used eyewitness accounts from the early disciples when he wrote his gospel. Why? “…so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught.” In other words. Luke is meticulous with his writings therefore his readers, even 2000 years later, can trust what he says is true. The question is: What are you going to do with what he writes? Believe it? ? Or reject it? In his details Luke mention Zechariah has a conversation with the angel Gabriel as he is doing his priestly duties in the Temple. I briefly talk about angels because we have the wrong idea about what angels look like.
