Let's face it...life sometimes is hard and can just suck. When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! And yet He did...willingly, therefore we find our hope in Him.

When I was a kid back in the 80s, there was a milk slogan that said, “Milk, it does a body good” It was an advertising slogan used by the American Dairy Association from the 1980s through the 1990s. The campaign aimed to highlight milk's health benefits such as building strong bones, muscle repair, and providing essential nutrients like protein and calcium. Peter talks about consuming the milk of God, even craving it, as we are being built into God’s temple, but Paul tells the church at Corinth they should be off of milk by now and eating solid food. What is he talking about? He is talking about wisdom—the world’s wisdom, which is what the church at Corinth was drinking from, verses God’s wisdom that comes from the Holy Spirit...whom, by the way, lives inside them! They were being led by the wrong wisdom!

The early church didn’t have multiple copies of the bible to pick up and read but they did have the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, as Jesus said in John 14, leads to all truth. In other words, the Holy Spirit comes from God, who is truth, and therefore will lead us in truth. Jesus said he is the truth in John 14:6. Some people in the church at Ephesus were following truth but at some point, they quit and started following demons. Paul is writing to Timothy, a young man, to stay in Ephesus and fight the enemy that is teaching false doctrine that comes from demons and is leading people away from the truth, away from Jesus. He tells Timothy that of he teaches the church the truth, he will be nourished by his faith and his teaching, which is all about Jesus. Who do you receive your nourishment from? The truth? Or false doctrines taught by demons? Does what you learn and teach line up with the truth of God’s word? If not, you’re being fed lies by demons and it is leading you away from Jesus!

Paul makes a strong statement in chapter 4 saying that some people have quit following truth and started following these false teachers whose teachings come from demons! Yikes! This means there were men and women who had given their life to Jesus, they were filled with the Holy Spirit who leads people into all truth, they were operating in the gifts of the Spirit, yet, after giving time and attention to these false teachers, they deliberately turned from Jesus to follow demons. It is easy for us to say we would never do such a thing but...watch out! You may already be doing it! If you are following someone who teaches false doctrine that doesn’t line up with the word of God, then you may have a seared conscience and following a demon!

We are tackling one of the most difficult passages in the Bible that comes from 1 Timothy 2 about women keeping silent and not being able to teach a man. It has been a hot topic and debated for centuries! What does Paul say? What does he mean by what he says? Is there a contradiction here? Does Paul contradict his very own thoughts? We’re going to dissect it and give our input in this podcast. This is part 2.

Have you ever listened to someone who sounds smart yet they have no idea what they are talking about? If you ever watch a “Reel” on social media, then you have listened to these people we call “Influencers.” They do these little, short videos, little snippets, sound bites, that sound amazing but once you get hooked and “Reeled” in, you find out they really have no idea what they are talking about and they lead people astray from the truth with their false teaching. Paul left Timothy in Ephesus to deal with people like this. People who sounded smart by telling myths and fables, using genealogies to sound educated and important, were leading people away from Jesus and destroying their faith. Paul tells Timothy to put a stop to these people!

When reading the bible, people may have a tendency to skip through Paul’s greetings. At the end of his letters, he starts telling the people “thank you” and “greet (fill in the blank), but there is some good stuff found in his greetings if we will take the time to read them and such is the case in the letter of Colossians. Yes, Paul greets a lot of people, some even from another church (Laodicea), but if you break down some of these people’s lives from what he says about them, one can learn a lot! Like Epaphras for example. Epaphras was a prayer warrior and he interceded on behalf of the church at Colosse, and also for Laodicea and Hieropplis. But in this greeting, we find out that Paul wrote a letter to the church at Laodicea...Where is this letter?!?! We do not have it in our bibles because nobody has the original to copy from! What did Paul say to the church at Laodicea?!?! I guess we’ll find out in heaven!

A trickle a day won't grow a plant. It must be watered daily. Why do we think we can have a relationship with God with just a trickle here and there? We have to be in the word, praying, communicating with God every day, several times a day! What kind of relationship would yo have with your spouse or friend if there was barely any communication? Jesus desires to have an intimate relationship with us, to spend quality time with us and if we want to grow our faith, we must spend time with him, communicating regularly with him!

Jesus continues to use parables to describe what the kingdom of God is like. In this podcast, we discuss the Parable of the Growing Seed and the Mustard Seed. It's all about the seed...or the word of God. The word of God is powerful! It has nothing to do with us! All we are supposed to be concerned with is sowing and watering seed, or spreading the word of God into people's lives so fruit will be produced by God. Are you sowing the seed of the kingdom brother?

Matthew shifts his focus from the religious leaders and Pharisees to some of Jesus’ teachings. He tells us that Jesus used stories called parables. He used things that his listeners would be familiar with such as seed, soil, coins, etc. to teach them a spiritual lesson. Many people today do not read the bible for themselves because they feel as though it is too hard to understand but Jesus said if we would listen to his teachings, God would give understanding. If you’re not reading and studying the word of God for yourself, you are having to take what someone else says and that can be very dangerous! How do you know if you are being deceived or not if you don’t know what the bible says?!?!? Get in the book and start reading!

What is the purpose of the law? What was the purpose of the prophets? Paul tells us in a couple of places the law was given so we would know what sin is. What is sin? Anything that goes against the will of God. The main purpose of the law and the prophets were to reveal the fact that we need a Savior...we need Jesus. As Jesus begins to teach his disciples about living a life pleasing to God he tells them that if their righteousness doesn't exceed that of the religious leaders and the Pharisees, they will not enter heaven! These are people who knew the law like the back of their hand. They looked the part, played the part, and people respected them greatly, but not Jesus. He saw their true nature, he saw their hearts. They may have been fooling the people around them but they didn't fool Jesus and he called them out, "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far fro me." They head knowledge about the scriptures but their heart was far from God! What would Jesus say about us?

The devil knows our weaknesses and he knows when to use them against us...in the wilderness. The wilderness is not a fun place to be: there’s a lack of nutrition, it’s lonely, and we have to really practice self-discipline. Right after he was baptized, the Spirit led Jesus to the wilderness where he would be tempted by the devil for a season. The devil used the same three temptations on Jesus as he does with us: he lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. How did Jesus not give into the temptations? He used the word of God to resist them and we must do the same which is why it is so important that we are in the word of God on a daily basis!

Apollos was a Jew that had been converted from Judaism to Jesus. He was smart, enthusiastic, loved to tell people about Jesus, but he was missing something. Aquila and Priscilla heard him speaking boldly at the synagogue one Sabbath day and pulled him off to the side and asked him about his baptism. He was only familiar with the baptism of John the Baptizer so when he would tell someone about Jesus, he would baptize them under the authority of John’s baptism and not in the name of Jesus. It was a baptism of repentance but it lacked one major thing…the HOLY SPIRIT! So Aquila and Priscilla teach him the word of God more accurately and he heads to Achaia (Corinth) to preach there. That’s where they had just spent a few years living in Corinth so they wrote a letter to the believers asking them to welcome Apollos. Don’t let fear hold you back from serving God. You will make mistakes and that’s ok, but the biggest mistake is doing nothing for the kingdom. We need you in the game! We need you in the fight! Just don’t sit on the sidelines and be a spectator!
