Let's face it...life sometimes is hard and can just suck. When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! And yet He did...willingly, therefore we find our hope in Him.

When we studied Titus, Paul talked about the Holy Spirit being poured upon God’s people from the depths of God’s bosom and he said God gives His spirit “generously,” He gives an endless supply to His people! Why? So we can endure to the end as he leads us. There are people who teach we have nothing to do with our salvation and this is absolute false. Paul says, “and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” Paul is talking to the church in Corinth, the ones he called “holy” at the beginning of the letter. He makes it clear that Jesus has the power to keep us and will keep us, if we keep in partnership with him. It’s called free will. If we look at other scriptures, they will support the idea. We will do a deep dive in this podcast...take a listen then share it with others!

Paul was being arrested for preaching the gospel and he was giving a plea to the crowd as he walked up the steps. Then he has to go before Felix and others to plead his case and they wanted to send him back to Jerusalem to have his trial. He refused because he knew there were Jews waiting to ambush him and kill him so, in a quick outburst, Paul appeals to Caesar because he knew it would keep him alive. But prior to going on this trip, Paul was warned by Agabus the prophet that if he went, he would die. Paul chose to go anyway, but God continued to use Paul, even while he was in jail awaiting his opportunity before Caesar. Every jailer, every person in the Praetorium heard the gospel because Paul, in his confinement, told them all about Jesus. The cool thing is, he converted some to Jesus! God can use us, even when we do things quickly, hurriedly, and our crazy decisions!

You have been crucified with Christ so don’t let your old self come back to life! This is Paul’s message to the church at Ephesus and to us today! He knows the inner struggle of walking by the Spirit and walking according to the flesh. He knows we have been given a new life in Christ but he also knows there is an enemy trying to destroy us so he warns them, “Don’t live like the Gentiles. Live Different.” He explains what he means by talking about the sins they were struggling with and he says, “Throw that old man off and allow the Holy Spirit to work in you!” We have a choice to make: We are either choosing to allow God work or in us or Satan. What choice are you making? If you say Jesus, would others agree? Can we see Jesus in you?

In this episode we talk about Predestination and what that exactly means but what is more important than Predestination is what Paul said before he gives us the idea: All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. I don’t think we have a clue of what it means to be in Christ and what blessings we have because of Jesus. It is absolutely mind blowing and what is incredible is that God did it even while we continue to reject Him! His love for us is absolutely amazing! We have everything we could possibly need and more in Jesus so why do we continue to reject him? Why would you not want salvation, healing, earthly blessings, and spiritual blessings that are in heavenly places?

Many people take what James says out of context and say we shouldn’t make plans and set goals but that is not what James is saying at all! The context of this passage is how people think they are in control, they have stepped in God’s role thinking they have power to control people and situations when we actually have nothing. It is good to make plans but the bottom line is, if God didn’t allow to carry out those plans, we couldn’t. Therefore, it is God who is in control, not us; He sees the heart and the true motives of a person, not us, therefore God is the only One qualified to be Judge...not us. What we can control is how we respond to the law, or how God wants us to live. We can only control us, what we listen to, what we allow in, how we respond to people and things. So, worry about what you can control and that is YOU! Allow God to take care of everything else.

We are tackling a very deep subject in the next two podcasts: the Sovereignty of God. What does it mean that God is sovereign and what does it mean for you and me? Do we have any say in anything or is God just sitting up there in heaven with a game controller and playing with our lives like a video game? People have written books on this subject but we’ll break it down to help you understand that God is for you, not against you and you do have a choice; you do have a say in the matter. You can choose to be on the winning team and say “Hallelujah…Thank you Jesus!”

Paul mentions something at the end of chapter 8 and also in Ephesians that so many have misunderstood and that is the doctrine of Predestination. Many believe that it doesn’t matter how we live our lives because God has already decided who is getting into Heaven and we have no say in it. Is this true? Do we not have a choice in the matter? If you put what Paul says in context, along with other scriptures, including some that Paul wrote himself, predestination will make sense. Yes, it is true that only certain ones are getting into Heaven, but the good news is, the invitation is sent out to everybody. We all have a choice to make: either to accept Jesus as our lord and Savior, or reject him.

Let's just admit it...sin is fun...at least for the most part. Gratifying our flesh feels great and we are quick to do so...unfortunately. But we don't have to and we strive not to! Paul says we are to not yield our bodies as instruments of sin but righteousness. We actually have a choice! Sin is born out of temptations that come from a desire within ourselves. We can stop it dead in its tracks but far too often we choose to carry the temptation out and sin. We use our body as an instrument to sin instead of righteousness. In fact, Paul says we are a slave to whichever we choose! So choose to do what is right! Choose Jesus!
