When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! Then there are the Gentiles who were completely outside of that covenant and were uncircumcised. Hostility would grow between these two groups of people and the roots would run deep for thousands of years. Then the church begins in Acts 2 and by the time we get to Acts 10, the Gentiles are now welcomed in the kingdom! Paul says in Ephesians 2, as well as other places, that Jesus shed his blood so that these two groups of people would be united into one and worship God together! Up until Acts 10, the church consisted of only Jews and was located in Jerusalem. When persecution came in Acts 8, the church scattered and went beyond Jerusalem but was still geared toward the Jews. Then Peter has a vision, Cornelius, a Gentile, has a visitation from an angel, and Peter goes to visit. When he does, he tells the Gentiles that had gathered at Cornelius’ house about Jesus and the Holy Spirit falls on them and Peter baptizes them. The Gentiles are now able to hear and accept the gospel. The church in Rome was made up of both Jews and Gentiles but for the first 10 chapters, Paul has been talking to the Jews. In chapter 11, he begins to address the Gentiles and how their salvation came about. If you want to be a part of the kingdom, then you got to take part of a new covenant. That old one ain’t cutting it anymore. The new covenant between God and man is based off my body and my blood and you must accept my sacrifice and follow me. If not, you ain’t getting in.” This is difficult for many of the Jews because they thought Jesus was a blasphemer and they wouldn’t even speak his name in reverence for God! John’s disciples say, “We fast like the religious leaders, so why do your disciples not fast?” It’s almost as if they are asking, “Since you are the Messiah as John has told us, since you are the standard of righteousness and holiness, then why are you not teaching or making your disciples fast?” as if fasting was a standard of holiness and to some, like the religious leaders, it was. They made a huge ordeal when they were fasting and how often they fasted. But what they didn’t know is there is a bigger picture, one they don’t see nor understand. Jesus uses a Jewish wedding to paint them the picture and how he has everything under control. David wanted to build God a permanent place to dwell and Solomon, his son, built the first Temple in Jerusalem. It was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar and later rebuilt. This building was majestic, it was ginormous, and yet it is empty because God no longer resides there. Jesus, God’s Son, was the Messiah who came to fulfill the law and be our once and for all sacrifice. He is now sitting at the Father’s right hand in the place of honor, making intercession for us! Therefore, this new covenant God has established by the blood of Jesus, is better than the old covenant so why would we want to leave Jesus and go to an empty building?
