People hear that he is back in town and the crowd begins to gather in so much that they are lined up outside wanting to see him. A man is brought by his friends to the house hoping they could get him to Jesus so he would be healed. He has been laying on this mat, unable to move for many years. He would not leave that house the same way he came! Jesus heals the man and it blew the people’s minds, including the religious teachers of the law. Jesus takes us right where we are in life and changes our situation immediately. Many people do not even know what a hypocrite is (Male actors in Greek plays who wore masks and pretended to be women and play different parts). Jesus exposes the hypocrites for who they really are and it’s not a pretty sight to behold. He pronounces all these woes and exposes their hearts for all to see and hear. At the end of the “woes” Jesus gives one last heartful plea for the Jews, as well as the religious leaders, to repent and except him for who he is…their Messiah, the Savior of the world. Spoiler alert! They kill him in a few days by crucifixion, but he would get the last laugh as he was resurrected in three days! But this still had very little effect on them because they continue their persecution against the apostles and those who follow Jesus. Learn a lesson from the disciples here…Remember! Jesus had just fed a crowd of at least 5,000, but more like 10,000, with 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread. This crowd of Gentiles is with Jesus for 3 days and he wants to feed them and the disciples freak out because they don’t have enough food to do so. How quickly we forget what God has already done in our lives and we act like He can’t do it again. Not only was the servant healed, he was healed instantly. He was healed as soon as Jesus proclaimed the healing. In Luke’s version of this story, we find out the servant was at the point of death. Evidently, this Roman soldier really cared about this servant. And for him to go to all this trouble to seek for Jesus and find him, asking him to heal this servant, also shows us the heart of this soldier. Even though he was high in ranks, battle tested, a manly man, strong and brae, he had a heart of compassion for his people, he cared for them, and Jesus saw this in the Roman soldier which is why he healed his servant. It all comes down to the heart. What about your heart? This leper should have been in quarantine, living in a leper colony but he does something bold...he went against God's laws in order to get to Jesus. He pops out of nowhere, kneels before Jesus stopping him in his tracks, and calls him Lord. I can't help but wonder if there were people in the crowd freaking out over the leper being near them and talking with Jesus but the leper didn't care; he knew Jesus was his only option for a normal life, Jesus was his hope, and he did what he had to in order to get to Jesus. What about you? When are you going to realize Jesus is your only hope? Sure, you may be able to do many things on your own, but you can't save yourself! Jesus goes on to say the road, and the gate to heaven, is narrow but the road, and the gate to destruction, is wide. He is the narrow gate, he is the only way to heaven and how did he treat people? With grace, mercy, compassion, and he was longsuffering. He displayed for us the way we should treat people, especially our enemies, those who do not treat us very well. Which road are you on? God knows you, He knows everything about you, and God has a purpose for you. 28:36 no Peter was acquainted with Jesus. He had met him in the synagogue when Jesus visited Capernaum and had taught there. After casting out the demon that day Jesus with home with Peter and stayed at his house for a while. Jesus even healed Peter’s mother-in-law of a fever. People were bringing their sick friends and family to Peter’s house in hopes that Jesus would heal them. Jesus leaves Peter’s house and travels around Judea telling people about the kingdom of God but on this particular day Jesus chose to teach on the shore of the Sea of Galilee where Peter was washing his nets from fishing the night before. Jesus uses Peter’s boat to teach the people and after he finishes his teaching he asks Peter to launch out into the deep. He then tells him to cast his nets once again but Peter was reluctant because he had fished all night, didn’t catch anything, and he had already cleaned his nets. But he didn’t want to be disrespectful to Jesus so he cast his nets into the water. The rest is history. Do you ever feel lost in the crowd? God knows you, He knows everything about you, and God has a purpose for you. The question is, will you like Peter, be obedient and allow Him into your life?
