When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! Or is there something we have to do? 34:54 no James seems to contradict Paul in James 2 when Paul says in many places “We are saved by grace through faith and not of works...” I hear people say something like this all the time, “You don’t have to do anything to be saved...” and I believe they get that from what Paul says but this is not a true statement. Salvation is a gift from God, Right? When we receive a gift from someone, we have to do something...we have to receive that gift! James says if we aren’t doing something with our faith, if that faith isn’t producing actions in us and through us, then our faith is dead and useless. We throw away useless things. We bury dead things. The love Jesus has for us should be enough to allow good deeds to flow from us naturally. Do people see your good deeds? We get fearful and Jesus tells Jairus, "Don't be afraid..." 49:46 no Jairus’ 12 year old daughter was sick and was dying. He seeks out Jesus and asks him to come to his house and lay hands on her to heal her. In other words, Jesus was his hope. As they were going to Jairus’ house, there was an interruption…a woman with a hemorrhage for 12 years heard about Jesus and she makes a B-line to him. This interruption takes long enough that Jairus’ daughter dies but as soon as he receives the news, Jesus looks at him and says, “Do not be afraid…only believe.” In other words, don’t give up hope…I got this. Jesus goes to his house, grabs the girl by the hand, and tells her to getup. She immediately gets up and starts walking around as if nothing ever happened. Don’t wait until you are desperate to turn to Jesus…go to him now! These are the ones who should know who Jesus was since they studied and taught the law of God their whole lives yet, they saw Jesus as a freak, a weirdo, and there was no way that guy could be the Messiah.
