We see Paul giving all three to the church at Philippi. 31:11 no Paul is constantly encouraging the church at Philippi by affirmation. He goes on and on about how he appreciates them, their support, hard work, and prayers. Then he talks about how often he prays for them and how he appreciates them praying for him since he has been in jail. In fact, they can hurt for a very long time! The tongue is such a small part of our body but it sure is powerful! Once words come out of our mouth, they can’t go back in! James compares our tongue with a fire and how powerful that fire is, how it can set a whole forest on fire! He says we curse people with the same mouth we bless the Lord with, and this shouldn’t be so! Why? Because God knew man needed community. Too many people try to isolate themselves and it is not healthy at all, which I believe is a reason why so many people give up on life. The author of Hebrews encourages his readers to continue to be a part of community. Why? Because when we are with other people our focus tends to be on them and not ourselves. We find out really fast that we aren’t the only ones suffering and that other people who have been through a similar struggle can offer us wisdom to help us get through, to continue to endure. And that is his message throughout this letter, “Endure, keep going, do not give up!” It’s a great message even for us today. We may not be facing persecution, but we are facing hard times, difficult trials, and can easily be discouraged just like the audience of this letter so listen to his message and find strength to keep pressing forward! Where does one go when they leave God? What's a better alternative? There's not one and that is what the author of Hebrews is trying to tell their audience who was in danger of missing heaven because they have lost their confidence in God! Persecution has come to them, some have been in jail, some beaten, some have lost all their possessions, and they are losing their confidence in God, in Jesus, so the author is encouraging them to take a look at the people of Israel that wondered in the wilderness for forty years...THEY DIDN'T GET IN! And he tells them if they walk away from Jesus, they won't either and neither will we!
