<description>Let's face it...life sometimes is hard and can just suck. When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! And yet He did...willingly, therefore we find our hope in Him.

<description>We are a society that wants what we want yesterday. We don’t want to wait for anything. We get mad at red lights when they change to red and there isn’t a car in sight and we yell and make gestures to those who cut us off and glow slow. Why? Because we are in a hurry to get to a place that isn’t going anywhere yet we think it can’t make it without our presence. We have all the information we could ever need at our fingertips and we get it in a instance, at the push of a button but yet we have to wait patiently for something we have no control over whatsoever—the return of Jesus. And as we wait patiently for Jesus’ return, we are to be patient with one another and not grumble about one another.

<itunes:subtitle>John's disciples wanted to know why Jesus' disciples didn't fast like they do. Jesus said it's out with the old and in with the new...covenant that is...</itunes:subtitle>

<description>It’s the old comparison game. John’s disciples say, “We fast like the religious leaders, so why do your disciples not fast?” It’s almost as if they are asking, “Since you are the Messiah as John has told us, since you are the standard of righteousness and holiness, then why are you not teaching or making your disciples fast?” as if fasting was a standard of holiness and to some, like the religious leaders, it was. They made a huge ordeal when they were fasting and how often they fasted. But what they didn’t know is there is a bigger picture, one they don’t see nor understand. Jesus uses a Jewish wedding to paint them the picture and how he has everything under control. He lets them know there is a new covenant coming soon that he will usher in!

<description>The author of Hebrews has given a bunch of examples of people who walked by faith, who had promises from God and they trusted that God would be faithful and come through on His promises. By faith they knew His promises were a reality and they had evidence, even though they couldn’t see it with their eyes. He starts off chapter 12 with a sports analogy when he compares our walk with God to a race and like a coach he gives instructions on how to run this race. Those instructions are, “Look to Jesus, our champion and endure to the end.” If you ever played sports, you wanted to win a championship, that was the goal. Everybody wants to be a champion.

<description>When the church leaders at Antioch were in a time of prayer and fasting the Holy Spirit gave clear direction, "Set apart Barnabas and Saul (Paul) for the work which I have called them to do." In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus talks about fasting as if he assumed we would be people who fast. Do you fats? Why or why not? We know from Acts 9 the work the Lord called Paul to do was take the gospel to the Gentiles. Acts 13 is the start of what we call the "First Missionary Journey" and as we go through the rest of this chapter we discuss some highlights and one of the things we see real quick is this "church" stuff isn't going to be easy for Paul and Barnabas. Persecution starts almost immediately!
