Let's face it...life sometimes is hard and can just suck. When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! And yet He did...willingly, therefore we find our hope in Him.

There were two guys names Jesus when Jesus the Messiah was on trial before Pilate: Jesus the Messiah and Jesus Barabbas. Jesus Barabbas' name means "Son of the Father" which is ironic when Jesus the Messiah is THE Son of the Father! Jesus Barrabas was a murderer for he had risen up against the Roman government to over throw it but was unsuccessful in his attempt; captured and jailed for killing. Jesus the Messiah was 100% innocent, he has done nothing wrong, and the religious leaders has been hurling accusations at him while Jesus stood before Pilate in silence. There was a custom in that day to release a prisoner so Pilate asked the crowd, "Who should I release?" The crowd yelled, "Release Jesus Barabbas and crucify Jesus the Messiah!" Pilate was shook and taken back; he tried to get out of it but couldn't because the crowd was getting restless, for they had been persuaded by the religious leaders to choose Jesus the Messiah. Because he feared the crowd and wanted to plead them, Pilate released Jesus Barabbas and crucified an innocent man, Jesus the Messiah.

Jesus is not your homie, your pal, your best bud. True, he is near to us, in fact, he lives inside of us and the bible says he is a friend that sticks closer than a brother, but we need to realize he is holy and we should have reverence for him. The early church had an “awe” of him and for God. He is a part of the Godhead, He is the Holy One of God, and we should respect him as such. Being the Son of God, Jesus received affirmation from his Father when he was baptized. The Father says, “This is my son that I love in whom I am well pleased.” Fathers, our children need our affirmation. If they don’t get it from us, they’ll get it from someone else and it won’t come from a godly source more than likely. Tell your children what they mean to you and how much you love them as much as you possibly can. They need that affirmation from YOU!

Because the sin of one man, Adam, we are still reaping the consequences to this day. People are dying every day, a separation occurs. Our loved ones leave us and pass on into eternity and it brings sorrow because we miss them. But even greater than this, Jesus, the second Adam, has brought hope, he has brought salvation by dying himself and conquering the power and grip of death. Because of Adam’s sin, we were born into sin and are all sinners but Paul makes it clear that through the second Adam, Jesus, and his sacrifice, our sins are forgiven and our relationship with the Father is restored. Every person, no matter what they have done, no matter what sin they commit, can have partake of this gift by putting their faith in Jesus!

How many times have you prayed and got nothing but crickets? It seemed as if God was silent and you pray and you pray some more, only to give up because you think God doesn't care since He isn't answering...Did you know Jesus had unanswered prayers?!?! He sure did...in the Garden of Gethsemene. He told his disciples he was grieved to the point of death and then he went and prayed three times that God would come up with another way to get our sins forgiven. All Jesus got from God was crickets...Did he quit? No...He knew what God's plan was and he followed through with it bearing great pain and agony for you and me, so our sins can be forgiven and we could have a relationship with God!

For over three years Jesus has sparred with the religious leaders because they have tried to prove he was not the Messiah. They keep coming back for more after getting exposed to the people around them and Jesus continues to expose their true heart and motivation. They have finally been silenced after sending the “expert” in to question Jesus and Jesus turns the table on the Pharisees and religious leaders in Matthew 23. They have surrounded Jesus, along with a crowd, and Jesus begins to call them out for their hypocrisy and sin. It had to have been a shock for the crowd to hear him be so bold, especially standing in the midst of those who want him dead! The religious leaders were supposed to be the example of God and they were the total opposite. Jesus, who they rejected, was God in the flesh, and he mirrored the heart of God and gave us all an example to follow.

John the Baptizer is out in the wilderness preaching the forgiveness of sins, telling people to repent and to be baptized. They were listening and responding to his message as people came from all over. Jhon gets a special visitor one day: Jesus and Jesus tells John to baptize him, not for the forgiveness of sins because Jesus didn’t have any sin, but to kick off his ministry. When Jesus came out of the water, the Spirit descended on him and a voice came from heaven saying, “This is My beloved son whom I am well pleased.” The Father gives affirmation to the son. Dads, affirmation is important to your children, especially your sons! Have you told them you love them today? When is the last time you told your children that you are proud of them and believe in them?

This part of Hebrews is tough for many people including myself. The author is going to discuss something no one likes to talk about and that is God disciplining us. People think of God as someone who is going to strike us down with lightning because we have done something wrong but that is a wrong impression of God. The author tells us God disciplines us because He loves us and if He doesn’t discipline us, then we are illegitimate children! But the struggle for many, like myself is to even see God as a Father because our earthly father abandoned or abused us, maybe both! I talk about my story in this episode and my struggle to look at God as a Father because of what I went through with my dad and stepdad in this episode. I hope you find some encouragement from my story!

We finish up chapter 2 discussing again that Jesus is better and far greater than the angels because of what he has done for us such as dying for us and making us holy by his blood. Because of his death we can now call God Father and He has adopted us into His family and we are called the children of God and we inherit God’s blessings. And because of Jesus conquering death when he came out of the tomb, we no longer have to fear death! If we have been washed in the blood of Jesus, we can take our last breath with a smile on our face and peace in our heart because we know what awaits us on the other side is so much better than what we have on earth! Do you have that peace in your heart or does dying scare you to death?!?! If you haven’t accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you should be scared! We are never promised tomorrow and we never know when death will come our way. Accept him today and et his peace fill your heart!

A big thing in our culture is “You have your truth and I have mine,” and what has happened is we have decided what is truth for ourselves. We have decided to do what we want and lie the way we want and to justify it, we make up our own rules and call them “truth.” Pilate asked Jesus, “What is truth?” when he was questioning him before crucifying him. The truth of the matter is, there is a standard of truth that never changes and that truth is God whether we choose to believe Him or not. He set the standard and it’s up to us to believe it, and by faith, lie by it. Sure you can reject the standard, He gives us the freedom to make that choice, but just know there is a day coming when we will suffer the consequences of rejecting God’s truth, Jesus.

Right there with the parable of the lost sheep and the lost coin is the parable of the prodigal son. It is one of the most misused parables because, in context, it's really about the older brother and how they represent the Pharisees who are mad over the people Jesus in ministering to. The context for this parable as well as the other parables Jesus tells in Luke 14-16 is set up in Luke 14 when Jesus was invited to a Pharisee's house and he wants to get them to understand how they have blown their responsibilities as the religious leaders that were to be the example of God to the people. They were shunning the very people they were to be ministering to and would have nothing to do with them because they thought they were better and above them. Jesus used the brother who squandered everything to show the heart of the Father and the brother who stayed at home to show the heart of the Pharisees. Which are you?

<itunes:subtitle>We finish John 14 with the disciples freaking out over what Jesus is telling them. They want to go with him and he tells them they can't. They are full of fear and doubt which is two great tools of the enemy. If Satan can keep us in fear and doubting God, then he knows we are no threat to him. Jesus promises them a Helper, the Holy Spirit and when he falls on the disciples in Act 2, they are filled with boldness. Even after being persecuted and beaten the disciples continue to be bold!
