Let's face it...life sometimes is hard and can just suck. When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! And yet He did...willingly, therefore we find our hope in Him.

The first issue Paul brings up to the church at Corinth is their division. One thing we understand from what he says is these people are playing favorites. Someone shared the gospel with them and they were baptized by that certain person. Paul even shares some of their names! However, Paul tells them they are focused on the wrong person and their division isn’t necessary. They are to be focusing on Jessus, the one who died on the cross and saved them from their sins. He is the most important person and the others are not important at all.

The church at Ephesus was a great church with many great qualities. It was made up of both Jews and Gentiles and stood strong against false teachers. Paul had a great relationship with this church and we can see their love for Paul in Acts 20 as he is on his way to Jerusalem but takes some time to meet with the elders from that church in Miletus. Jesus himself had many great things to say about this awesome church but he also had a major issue with it. Despite all of the encouragement from Paul and Jesus, this loving church was losing their first love—Jesus! They had become so focused on doctrine and fighting against false teachers that they forgot the very one who gave them the doctrine and their salvation to begin with! May we learn a great lesson from this church that is nonexistent today...stay focused on Jesus and keep him the main thing, the focal point of everything we do and say.

Jesus tells his disciples their righteousness must exceed that of the Pharisees or they cannot enter into heaven so he teaches them in the Sermon on the Mount how to live a righteous life that is pleasing to God. He tells them they cannot serve God and money. Would you say you hate God? I doubt it but would your lifestyle and choices you make say otherwise? Our bank accounts will tell the story. Our bank accounts will tell us where our priorities are, where our focus is, and where our hearts are at. Hopefully, people look at us and see Jesus…not a Pharisee.

We come to the end of this study on the book of Hebrews. I hope and pray you have been encouraged from it and as we dig into the author’s last words of this letter, I hope they ring loud and clear, “Look to Jesus, stick with Jesus, and continue to follow Jesus no matter what comes your way!” We must remember, whether we realize it or not, we are leaders! Someone is watching our every move to see how we will respond to the situation that we are facing and if we aren’t careful, we could lead them down the wrong path. It then becomes clear, that we should be following Jesus, because if we are following him, then we will lead people to him and not away from him? So, with that in mind, where is your focus? Wherever your focus is, that is where you are walking towards!

“Temptations will always come” That’s what Jesus says to start Luke 17 when talking to his disciples. What is temptation and where did is come from? Our goal is to keep our eyes on Jesus and live a life that is pleasing to God. We want to get to heaven when we pass from this temporary life we live into our eternal life. There is someone that will do anything he can to distract us from our goal, he throws things in our path to try and get our attention so our focus will get off of God, and onto something else because if we lose focus, he can work his game and Satan, which means “opposition”, is good at his game! We see it in the Garden of Eden when he got man to lose focus and sin, he got Peter get his focus on the goal when he denied he even knew Jesus, and if we aren’t careful, he will get our attention and we too, will lose focus! And he knows what we like and what will get our attention. Take assessment of your life and make sure you are on track and that you haven’t veered to the right or the left! As the saying goes, “Check yourself, before you wreck yourself”!

* The sharing of meals with joy and generosity.

Peter had denied Jesus three times before he died on a cross. After the resurrection he sits at a fire with Jesus watching the fish cook and Jesus asks him three times, “Do you love me?” In the English language we miss what Jesus is really asking Peter. Jesus is trying to get Peter to realize that he will have to love him unconditionally to make it through the days ahead when persecution starts. All Peter wanted to do was focus on another disciple and Jesus tells Peter, “You don’t worry about him and follow me.” Far too often we want to look at other people when we should be looking at ourselves and focusing on what we can do for the kingdom. We need to be obedient…
