Let's face it...life sometimes is hard and can just suck. When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! And yet He did...willingly, therefore we find our hope in Him.

When Paul writes a letter to one of the churches in the New Testament, he starts with a greeting and ends with a greeting. The greeting at the start of these letters all seem to have a familiar pattern. He starts with his name, Paul, so the people know he is giving the commentary, the beefy parts of the body of the letter, then he will mention the one who is helping him write the letter. Paul will sometimes write the final greeting in his own handwriting which is very large, probably because his sight isn’t very good. In the case of 2 Corinthians, Paul mentions Timothy, a young man who started helping Paul with his journeys when he came to Lystra. But then Paul does something special...he pens a blessing to congregation and points them to Jesus before challenging some ways they are acting. It’s as if he gathers them together for a big hug and says, “It’s all about Jesus and never forget that.”

After discussing Jesus’ return with the church at Thessalonica, Paul offers some final thoughts for them, encouraging them to stick it out with Jesus and follow the Spirit’s leading. In these thoughts, he gives another “This is God’s will for you...” He tells them to be thankful in ALL circumstances...could you imagine being persecuted, seeing your loved ones die for following Jesus, and then a man comes along and tells you to be thankful?!?! Jesus did the same thing in Matthew 5 when he was giving the Sermon on the Mount! But there is more to Paul’s final thoughts and we cover them in this podcast.

When reading the bible, people may have a tendency to skip through Paul’s greetings. At the end of his letters, he starts telling the people “thank you” and “greet (fill in the blank), but there is some good stuff found in his greetings if we will take the time to read them and such is the case in the letter of Colossians. Yes, Paul greets a lot of people, some even from another church (Laodicea), but if you break down some of these people’s lives from what he says about them, one can learn a lot! Like Epaphras for example. Epaphras was a prayer warrior and he interceded on behalf of the church at Colosse, and also for Laodicea and Hieropplis. But in this greeting, we find out that Paul wrote a letter to the church at Laodicea...Where is this letter?!?! We do not have it in our bibles because nobody has the original to copy from! What did Paul say to the church at Laodicea?!?! I guess we’ll find out in heaven!
