That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! We set out on a quest to become a hero, to win that battle! We set goals, we discipline ourselves and work hard to conquer them. Unfortunately, too many times we get so caught up in the quest and forget about the people around us. In fact, far too often, we use them to get a step higher on the ladder or to get us closer to the goal! Paul calls it being conceited, selfish, and the Greek word he uses says it is “empty glory.” No matter how much success we have, if we don’t have Jesus we have nothing. It's all empty! So big shot, how did you get where you are? Following God as you let Him lead? Or did you cheat your way there? Every day, we have a choice, Am I going to continue to follow Jesus? Am I going to allow Jesus to work in my life? Am I going to get in the word and let my roots grow deep into Jesus so I can stand strong when storms come? If you didn’t choose a close friend to be the leader, they may choose hard things to follow just to try and get you to booted out of the game. Paul says we have two leaders we can follow: 1. Satan or 2. Jesus. He says we are already following Satan if we are living a rebellious, sinful life, gratifying our fleshly desires. But God is rich in mercy and is giving us the opportunity to choose Jesus and follow him so we can be with God for eternity. Jesus goes on to say the road, and the gate to heaven, is narrow but the road, and the gate to destruction, is wide. He is the narrow gate, he is the only way to heaven and how did he treat people? With grace, mercy, compassion, and he was longsuffering. He displayed for us the way we should treat people, especially our enemies, those who do not treat us very well. Which road are you on? Luke introduces his readers to a guy named Simeon who was told by God Himself, that he would not die until he had seen the Messiah. He wasn’t even suppose to be at the Temple that day but he was led by the Holy Spirit, and because he listened and allowed the Spirit to guide him, Simeon went to the Temple and he not only saw, but held the baby in his arms. Are we listening to the Holy Spirit and allowing him to guide us? If not, we are missing out some of God’s greatest blessings! And when Simeon saw Jesus he said he could now die in peace. Death is imminent and cannot be avoided. When you think about death are you filled with fear or peace?
