Let's face it...life sometimes is hard and can just suck. When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! And yet He did...willingly, therefore we find our hope in Him.

Elvis sang a song that said, “I’m caught in a trap...I can’t walk out...” He was talking about love. He loved someone and no matter what, he couldn’t walk away from the relationship because he loved that person. Paul talks about a different trap that people get caught in and that trap is set by Satan himself. He says these people are being held captive by Satan and doing whatever he desires. The sad thing is, they don’t even realized it. They think they are living life to the fullest and doing whatever they want, not caring what God thinks about it. Jesus came to set us free and they only way to be free is to be living for him which is Paul’s message to Timothy...stick with Jesus and pursue him!

People today want to be seen and they’ll do anything to be seen. They’ll sleep with whoever they need to, lie, cheat their way to the top, deceive and walk all over anybody to achieve their goal. They want to go viral, be known, because it’s all about them. Paul says we are hidden in Christ and will be revealed when Jesus comes back. But again, who wants to be hidden? We want to be seen! When we come to Christ, our sins are forgiven, our old, sinful nature is put to death and buried, however, Paul says there is sin that still lurks within us and we must continue to follow Jesus and crucify these desires. He lists sins of the flesh that we must continually put away and he reminds us that Christ is coming back and when he does, he is coming with a vengeance! Therefore, living for Jesus has to be the most important goal in our life, to become like him must be the goal. Anything else is idolatry, greed, and sin.

Too many people in the church today want to hide. They would rather hide than get to work and Paul, as well as Jesus, makes it clear, we are to work for the kingdom! Paul even goes to say that God gives us the desire to work and to accomplish His will. Can we say that if a person doesn’t have that desire, then there is a disconnect in their relationship with God? YES! Just like Christmas lights that are connected to a power source yet half the lights aren’t working because one little bulb has a disconnect. After you carefully comb through the string of lights trying to figure out which one it is, you discover it, plug it correctly, and boom...the lights are working! Shine your light! Shine THE Light...Jesus! Put your hands to the plow and plant seed!

We continue looking at the parables Jesus used to teach the crowds so they could try and understand what it was like to follow him. In this episode of the GRINDIT Podcast, we take a look at two parables: the hidden treasure and the pearl. In both of these parables someone is searching for something. One treasure hunter has heard about a certain buried treasure in a field so he goes looking for it. When he finds it, he reburies it, goes and sells everything he has so he can purchase the field, and now the treasure is now his. In the second, a merchant who deals in pearls is always looking for that one pearl that is worth a lot of money, the mother pearl if you will. If they could just find that one pearl, their life would be complete. Many people are still looking for that pearl but what they don’t realize is that pearl is Jesus, that treasure is Jesus. He is worth giving up everything to follow. He should be THE most important thing in our life. What is that pearl, that treasure you seek? However you answer that question, if it’s not Jesus, that is the very thing that is keeping you from following him which is called an idol. What is your soul worth? What is so important, so precious to you that you aren’t willing to give it up to follow Jesus?
