Let's face it...life sometimes is hard and can just suck. When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! And yet He did...willingly, therefore we find our hope in Him.

Do you realize that if you have given your life to Jesus you have been filled with his Spirit and therefore, you have the mind of Christ?!?!? That’s right!!! You have the mind of Christ so your life should reflect that. When we look at the church at Corinth, whom Paul calls holy, they are lacking in the category! There are things going on that do not reflect Christ in that church and Paul is saying to them, “What are yall doing? Why do yall have divisions among you? Yall should all be focused on Jesus and nobody else!” Why? Because they have been given freely the Holy Spirit of God and through the Spirit, they have the mind of Christ and God reveals His secrets to them through His Spirit.

When we studied Titus, Paul talked about the Holy Spirit being poured upon God’s people from the depths of God’s bosom and he said God gives His spirit “generously,” He gives an endless supply to His people! Why? So we can endure to the end as he leads us. There are people who teach we have nothing to do with our salvation and this is absolute false. Paul says, “and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” Paul is talking to the church in Corinth, the ones he called “holy” at the beginning of the letter. He makes it clear that Jesus has the power to keep us and will keep us, if we keep in partnership with him. It’s called free will. If we look at other scriptures, they will support the idea. We will do a deep dive in this podcast...take a listen then share it with others!

Paul has just told the church in Corinth they are holy because they belong to Jesus. He then proceeds to tell them they have all the spiritual gifts they need as they are waiting for Jesus to return. We see these gifts mentions in chapter 12 and we will discuss these in more detail when we get there but we want you to know God has filled you with the Holy Spirit and through His Spirit, He has given you a gift to use to encourage others in the kingdom, to endure, and to bring God glory! What gift do you have to use? Are you using it? If not, why not?!?!?

The church at Corinth was jacked up in all kinds of ways...just like the church in our day! People make comments how they don’t want to go to “church” because it’s full of hypocrites. Churches are full of people...people are jacked up...we ALL need Jesus! However, the church in Corinth seemed to bring a lot of their culture into the church instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to shape them but in all of that, Paul still tells them, “You are God’s holy people.” Despite being jacked up in all kinds of ways, they said “yes” to Jesus and his blood washes their sins away...just like you and me if we have said “yes” to him.

Paul says God’s will for us is to live holy lives and stay away from all sexual sin. The podcast was so long for this part, we made it into two podcasts because we talk in depth about what it means to be holy and how we are made holy by our faith in Jesus. We are to be different from the world around us, we have been called out and filled with the Holy Spirit! God lives inside of us, changing us from the inside, therefore, people should see that change taking place from the outside! In turn, this would let them see the change God has made in us and they would desire for Him to live inside them!

A question every follower of Jesus asks is, “What is God’s will for my life?” Well, you don’t have to wonder what God’s will for you is any longer because Paul reveals it in chapter 4! He says, “God’s will is for you to be holy...” Wow! Just be holy and you are doing God’s will but what does that mean? We talk about it in today’s podcast as well as the next two. It was a long discussion so we split this one up!

Paul confronts Peter because of his sin, his choosing to not fellowship with the uncircumcised Gentiles when the circumcised Jews came into the room. Paul lets Peter know that he is in sin and his sin has led others astray as well! We take a deep dive into the seriousness of sin and who it effects beside us. What we see is it comes down to who do we chain ourselves to, who are we bound to? Ourselves? Our flesh? Or Jesus? Do we gratify our flesh or do we allow the Holy Spirit to lead us? If we say Jesus, then do we live like it or do we unholy lives deceiving ourselves thinking we are in good standing with God. Lord, break every chain that bounds us to the things that hinder our relationship with You!

Lord, break every chain that bounds us to the things that hinder our relationship with You!

Jesus and his disciples go to church, or their version of it anyway and a man shows up while Jesus is teaching and he is demon possessed. The demon acknowledges Jesus and calls him the Holy One of God. Jesus immediately shuts the demon up and casts him out of the man right there in front of the crowd. They are amazed, not only at Jesus’ teaching because he is teaching with authority and not as the teachers of the law, but they are amazed at his authority over the demons! Ig Jesus didn’t have their attention before, he has it now! Does he have yours?

Jesus is not your homie, your pal, your best bud. True, he is near to us, in fact, he lives inside of us and the bible says he is a friend that sticks closer than a brother, but we need to realize he is holy and we should have reverence for him. The early church had an “awe” of him and for God. He is a part of the Godhead, He is the Holy One of God, and we should respect him as such. Being the Son of God, Jesus received affirmation from his Father when he was baptized. The Father says, “This is my son that I love in whom I am well pleased.” Fathers, our children need our affirmation. If they don’t get it from us, they’ll get it from someone else and it won’t come from a godly source more than likely. Tell your children what they mean to you and how much you love them as much as you possibly can. They need that affirmation from YOU!

Paul encourages both Gentiles and Jews alike to give their bodies to God as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. What does it mean to be a "living sacrifice"? What is worship? What does it mean to be "transformed" by the renewing of your mind? We need to know the answers to these questions because Paul says it how we can be pleasing to God! So, in this podcast, we tackle the answers to these questions in a new format: a group discussion with myself, Shelby Rose, who plays on the worship team at Authentic Church, and Mary Gamboa, the worship leader at Authentic Church.
Here is a link to Mary's album she just released called "Jealous":

Jesus heals a man who couldn’t hear nor speak. The people who saw this happen was amazed and they started to ask the question, “Could this man be the Messiah?” The simple answer is “Yes” but was it so simple? There are many who reject Jesus to this day so what’s the difference? You may say, “Well they had Jesus walking around with them so they should have known,” but it’s not that easy. They had preconceived ideas of who and what the Messiah would be and Jesus didn’t fit the bill. So the Pharisees used any opportunity they could to reject Jesus and this time they accuse him of working miracles by the power of Satan. Jesus tells them straight up that a kingdom divided cannot stand and if he is working miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit, then the kingdom of God has come. Then he warns them of blaspheming the Holy Spirit which is an automatic ticket to hell. What does it mean to blaspheme the Holy Spirit? Listen to find out!

As the author is wrapping up chapter 12, he tells them there are some things they need to do on their journey to heaven as they endure to cross that finish line and it involves a four-letter word we do not like: WORK! He tells them to work on two things: 1) work at living in peace with everyone, 2) and work at living holy. Then he gives them, and us, a recipe on how to live a faithful life:
1. Be thankful.
2. Please God by worshiping Him.
3. Worship Him with fear and awe.

The religious leaders from all over the region have been trying to back Jesus in a corner for three years. They have tried to trip him up so they could prove that he was not the Messiah yet they never accomplished their goal. Therefore, they turned to violence and try to stone him several times. The ones who should have known that Jesus was the Messiah, literally hated God! The very One who they claimed to love and to be serving! And here they are on their turf, the holy city of Jerusalem, Jesus was there, literally to die for the sins of man, to accomplish the will of God, and what they are asking Jesus here is, “Who do you think you are?” And nothing has changed much today! The creation still thinks they are better than the Creator! And Christian, before we slam the religious think about this question, “Am I doing the same they did?” and what I mean by that is: do we trust Jesus or do we question everything he does, everything about him? Even though I know a little bit about the Bible and I say I love God, do I show it by the way I live?

Why did Paul say he was "bound by the Spirit" to go to Jerusalem? If you have the answers please email me at thegrinditpodcast@gmail.com! As for now, I will give my opinions because he was told several times by people speaking by the power of the Holy Spirit to not go to Jerusalem! Why would he not listen? Why did he continue his journey? Just think of all the great things he could have done to help the newly established churches. What about all of those opportunities to start even more churches in new territories? What was so appealing to Paul that he had to go to Jerusalem? He knew his life would be in danger when he got there because he had been warned over and over again by the Holy spirit but he said he was ready to die for Jesus! The man definitely had a passion for serving Jesus but did he make a mistake by going to Jerusalem? I share my thoughts about in this episode....

Cornelius was a God fearing Gentile who was an officer in the Roman army. He prayed three times a day, was devoted to God, and helped the poor om a daily basis, but he lacked something...he didn't have Jesus! After talking with an angel he sends men to get Peter in Joppa and bring him to his home in Caesarea. While the men were gone to get Peter, Cornelius invites his friends and family over to hear what Peter has to say. When Peter arrives he simply shares the gospel, the good news of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection. Before he could finish his talk, the holy Spirit falls on the Gentiles in the room and they speak in tongues. It was exactly what happened to Peter and the other apostles in Acts 2 so Peter immediately recognized what was going on. Game changer! Because of this event, we Gentiles, are now welcomed into the kingdom of God!

It's just one little lie. What's the big deal? A lie cost Ananias and Sapphira their lives. They had sold their property and kept some of the money for themselves but when they came to give it to the apostles to help the needy, they lied about how much they had sold the property for thinking nobody knew what they had planned together. The only problem was they didn't think about the fact that God is all knowing and He sees everything! Peter calls them out on it and said, "You didn't lie to us...you lied to God!" Immediately they fell to the ground dead. It may seem unfair and extreme to us but it got the point across to the early church...God is serious about sin and we better be if we call ourselves a Christ follower!

<itunes:subtitle>Jesus has died on the cross, was buried for three days, and came out of the tomb alive...just like he said he would do. He shows himself to his disciples several times in a forty day period to prove to them he is really alive and he wants them to try and grasp the concept of the kingdom. After those forty days were over he is talking with them on the Mount of Olives and he starts ascending into heaven! He gave hem a commandment before he left, "Wait...Wait for the promise of my Father and when the promise comes you will be my witnesses." The transition of power has taken place. The kingdom is now in the hands of the disciples!</itunes:subtitle>
