When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! In less than a year, they were known throughout the world! 34:23 no The church at Thessalonica started in Acts 17. Paul and Silas made their way there after getting run out of Philippi. Luke says Paul reasoned with the Jews at the synagogue for three Sabbaths while most historians say Paul stayed there for about three months. He was run out of Thessalonica as well and went to Berea. However, that three month period made a huge impact there! The men and women who chose to obey the gospel took it to heart and wanted others to know about Jesus too! They were known in the region around them as people who did faithful work, loving deeds, because they put their hope in Jesus. His 12 year old daughter was dying and he knew his only hope was to find Jesus and have him come to his house and lay his hands on her so he could heal her sickness before she died. Everything was going great until a woman with an issue of blood interrupted the mission. She had been bleeding for 12 years and was instantly healed when she touched Jesus’ clothes. He stops to have a conversation with the woman and while they were talking, Jairus gets news that his daughter died. He had lost all hope but Jesus tells him to not be afraid and to have faith. When they arrive at the house Jesus tells the paid mourners that the girl is asleep and they laugh at him to his face. He sends them out, then raises Jairus’ daughter back to life! The author has a reason for bringing up all these people who did things by “faith.” They had a hope, they had a promise, they were looking forward to something far greater. They were looking for heaven, to be with God, to have an intimate relationship with Him and to spend eternity with Him. They were willing to put their lives on the line to follow Him. When times got hard, they continued to follow Him and they did not quit for any reason. They endured! Why? Because faith: Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. 2 Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. They couldn’t see it, but they trusted God to come through and He did. Why did they say that? Because if we let go of the string, the kite will either come crashing to the ground, get caught in a tree, or even worse, fly away and we risk losing the kite! The author is going to lay the hammer down on his readers in chapter 10. It starts off repeating some things he has already said and we have covered but in vs 19 through the rest of the chapter you better put on your seat belt because the road gets pretty rough! He reminds his readers how they can enter God’s presence, right at the throne because of the blood of Jesus but then he encourages them to keep a tight grip on that hope and to not let go because if they walk away from Jesus, they walk away from his promises; they walk away from his sacrifice, the ONLY sacrifice that will get them, and us, into heaven! As he just appears in a room with them he gives them peace. Many people today can relate to the disciples because their lives are filled with chaos and confusion so they need the peace of God in their lives. Thomas missed Jesus' appearance and he wouldn't believe the disciples story. He wanted to see Jesus for himself and many people are this way. We choose not to believe unless we have something tangible. We don't want fake news, we want it first hand. So Jesus lets Thomas wait eight days before he appeared again. Thomas had to endure a lot of different emotions for over a week but when Jesus showed up, they all went away and Thomas, along with all the disciples, were filled with joy! What are you waiting on God for? Don't give up...keep the faith...and when God does show up, He will make all things well!
