When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! People make comments how they don’t want to go to “church” because it’s full of hypocrites. Churches are full of people...people are jacked up...we ALL need Jesus! However, the church in Corinth seemed to bring a lot of their culture into the church instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to shape them but in all of that, Paul still tells them, “You are God’s holy people.” Despite being jacked up in all kinds of ways, they said “yes” to Jesus and his blood washes their sins away...just like you and me if we have said “yes” to him. culture, shape, influence, childhood, woke, agenda, Jesus, hypocrite, church, holy, consecrate The church at Corinth was jacked up in all kinds of ways...just like the church in our day! Jesus exposes the hypocrites for who they really are and it’s not a pretty sight to behold. He pronounces all these woes and exposes their hearts for all to see and hear. At the end of the “woes” Jesus gives one last heartful plea for the Jews, as well as the religious leaders, to repent and except him for who he is…their Messiah, the Savior of the world. Spoiler alert! They kill him in a few days by crucifixion, but he would get the last laugh as he was resurrected in three days! But this still had very little effect on them because they continue their persecution against the apostles and those who follow Jesus. They have surrounded Jesus, along with a crowd, and Jesus begins to call them out for their hypocrisy and sin. It had to have been a shock for the crowd to hear him be so bold, especially standing in the midst of those who want him dead! The religious leaders were supposed to be the example of God and they were the total opposite. Jesus, who they rejected, was God in the flesh, and he mirrored the heart of God and gave us all an example to follow. It’s a term that comes from Greek theatre where men played all the roles and they would wear a mask to pretend to be someone or something else. The Pharisees, along with the religious leaders, were pretending to serve God and to love God but in reality they were doing the opposite. They were doing everything for power and prestige, to be seen by those in their community yet they didn’t care for the people in their community at all. They felt as though they were “above” the “sinners”! So Jesus explains to his disciples that their righteousness must exceed that of the Pharisees because they will soon be taking over the Kingdom of God and they will be the ones people look to for help and guidance, especially when persecution comes.
