He touches his eyes and the man sees trees; Jesus touches him again and he sees clearly. Why did Jesus do this healing this way? Did he fail the first time? Did he make a mistake? Absolutely not! He is teaching his disciples a lesson. These guys have seen him do many miracles including raising a dead girl back to life and yet they don't get it, they don't understand. It's as if they see trees but Jesus knows that in time, they will get it and they will see clearly which is why he asks them right after this, "Who do you say that I am?" What about you? Do you see trees? Or do you get it? After saying Jesus was chosen by God to be our High Priest, he goes on to tell his audience that God knows what they are dealing with and what they are experiencing in life, therefore they should not lose confidence in Jesus and keep the faith! He goes into detail how Jesus was human and was tempted and suffered persecution just as they are and he is here to help them if they would continue their walk with him. It’s so easy to draw back and get mad at God when difficulties come into our lives but that’s the very opposite that we should do. We should run TO God for help! And as we go through life’s struggles there are so many lessons we can learn and the author says Jesus himself learned obedience to God in his struggles.
