Paul refers to people who have not given their lives to Jesus and have not been filled with his Spirit as “pagan”. These pagans put their faith in idols, false gods, that couldn’t even speak, they could not communicate with the very people that were serving them. The pagans worshipped these false gods, carved idols in a certain image of these gods, would burn incense, make sacrifices, even sacrificed their children to them in extreme cases! Paul says, “Once were some of you but now you are Temple of God, His dwelling place, filled with His Spirit, and He has a relationship with you and has given you specific gifts to help the body function properly.” Are you a pagan? Or are you filled with the Spirit of God? If so, are you a part of the body of Christ? Are you meeting together with the believers when they assemble? You are badly needed!

Episode 563: 1 Corinthians 8 Part 1 I Can Do Whatever I Want...Not!

Paul has been asked a question about eating meat that has been sacrificed to idols. In his response to the church at Corinth, he keeps bringing up their “Superior knowledge” about the subject at hand. Jews would have God’s law concerning which food to eat and not eat, while the Gentiles didn’t have any laws and ate whatever they wanted. Paul is comparing the stronger believer to the weaker believer and he tells the stronger believer that can’t do whatever they want concerning eating this meat because it may cause the weaker believer to fall into sin! Then he really lowers the boom when he tells them that they should be showing God’s love to the weaker believer which is a unconditional love.

Ever since I was old enough to read the bible and understand it, I have come across the words “Fornication” and “Adultery” but did not know there was a difference. The two are closely related but they each mean something different. Most translations will use the words “sexual immorality” instead of “Fornication”. In the church at Corinth, a young man was committing sexual immorality with his stepmom! Yeah! He was having sex with his dad’s wife! And the bad thing was, the church was tolerating the sin and ignoring it! Paul says, “This can’t be happening and you need to deal with it immediately!”

Episode 450: Galatians 4 Part 3 You Are Known By God

Paul tells the church at Galatia, who is made up of Gentiles, “Before you Gentiles knew God, you were slaves to so-called gods that do not even exist.” Think back to early in the Old Testament when God came to Abraham and said “Leave Ur and go to a land I will show you.” Abraham was in a pagan land where people didn’t worship Yahweh...they worshipped gods that didn’t exist! Where did they learn of these gods? It all starts in the Garden of Eden, the fall of man, and man being kicked out. It wasn’t until Seth had a son names Enosh when people started worshipping Yahweh by name. That was a period of around 240 years! Paul tells us that people had their own idea of God and they fashioned God into their own ideas and images. Think about it...when Moses challenged Pharaoh in Egypt, they had gods for everything yet they did not worship the One true God—Yahweh. Paul tells the Galatians, “You are known by the God that really exists!”
