That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! They are asked by Jesus to feed another huge crowd, mostly Gentiles, and they freak out. They had forgotten what Jesus was capable of doing. After this event, some Pharisees show up and want Jesus to perform a miracle but he refused to do so and as he is traveling in a boat with his disciples he tells them, "Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees." They think he is scolding them for not having any bread. As they blame one another for not bringing any bread, Jesus does scold them for having eyes to see and ears to hear yet they don't understand. Of course he heals the man and the Pharisees begin to plot on how they can kill Jesus. They follow him around accusing him of being possessed by Satan. We expect the hatred coming from the religious leaders but did you know Jesus’ own family were haters too?!?!? Jesus exposes the hypocrites for who they really are and it’s not a pretty sight to behold. He pronounces all these woes and exposes their hearts for all to see and hear. At the end of the “woes” Jesus gives one last heartful plea for the Jews, as well as the religious leaders, to repent and except him for who he is…their Messiah, the Savior of the world. Spoiler alert! They kill him in a few days by crucifixion, but he would get the last laugh as he was resurrected in three days! But this still had very little effect on them because they continue their persecution against the apostles and those who follow Jesus. They are, once again, trying to trap Jesus, and their plan is to use the law of Moses, who was the authority of their religion, against Jesus. If Jesus didn’t answer correctly, then they have trapped him! But they didn’t get the answer they were hoping for. Jesus explains to them what God’s heart is about marriage but since the Pharisees weren’t after God’s heart, they didn’t want to hear it. They wanted justification to their selfish hearts’ desires which was more than likely, divorcing and remarrying the greener grass in their neighbor’s yard. They were looking for a way around the law; they didn’t want to be accused of adultery which is the seventh commandment of the ten commandments that they hang their hats on! Jesus lowers the boom when he tells them they have committed adultery if they divorce and remarry for any other reason than infidelity. Then Jesus goes on their turf, the synagogue, and heals a man with a deformed hand and it sends them over the edge! So Jesus is going to give them three parables that tell the Pharisees what his mission is, to seek and save the lost. So Jesus is going to give them three parables that tell the Pharisees what his mission is, to seek and save the lost. The lost being those who know they are sinners, who need God, and want to serve him whole heartedly. Jesus wants these Pharisees to know what the heart of God is really about. So he uses the examples of sheep, coins, and people to get his point across.
