He does both! He hears you and He cares!!! The reason your prayers may not be answered is because you aren’t walking in your calling! Paul discusses that here in chapter 4, that we are to walk worthy in the manner we are called. We are called to live different from the world and he gives four examples of how we should walk. If any one of them are out of line, not in the will of God, it could possibly hinder our prayers! We want to be in control and as long as we are in control, God cannot work. Then temptations come and, if we give, brings separation, like Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. That is why it is crucial that we are in the word every day and that we are praying many times a day! No matter the social scale or our bank account, troubles, trials, testing’s, and temptations will come. Not only will they come, but death will come at some point too and the only thing that will matter when we take our last breath is: Did I know Jesus as my Lord and Savior? God knows what it’s like to lose a son, he knows what it’s like to watch a family member go through so much pain, he knows what it’s like to watch a child be bullied, beaten, and killed. God knows what we deal with on a daily basis and he can help because he has been through it, he has experience, he is full of wisdom, and James says God will give it liberally if we ask...AND not waver, or doubt. After hearing the explanation, he says, “You faithless generation, how long do I have to put up with you?” Who is he talking to? The dad? The kid? The religious leaders? The crowd? Or his disciples? So many times, when we pray for someone to be healed and nothing happens, we blame the recipient and say something like, “They don’t have enough faith.” But is this true? Is the recipient the one to blame? The answer may surprise you because Jesus is actually blaming the disciples here, the givers! All Jesus got from God was crickets...Did he quit? No...He knew what God's plan was and he followed through with it bearing great pain and agony for you and me, so our sins can be forgiven and we could have a relationship with God! He keeps refusing to listen to the widow but she is persistent. Instead of giving up, she continues to nag the judge until finally he gives in and she gets justice. Jesus said the judge finally gave in because the widow was getting on his nerves. Then Jesus tells his disciples that God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night. He asks, “Will he keep putting them off?” Then he answers, “I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly!” Though it may not always seem like it, God knows what we are going through, and it may seem like He doesn’t care or He is nowhere around, but He is right by our side the whole time. Peter has been arrested, he knows that James, the brother of John, has been beheaded and unless the Lord intervenes he will meet the same fate in just a few days! But when Luke turns the spotlight on Peter as he is in prison waiting for Passover to be over with so he can have his trial we find Peter sound asleep as he is chained to two guards. He was in such a deep sleep that the bright light from the appearance of the angel didn't even wake him up!
