When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! We need to trust our Father, that He will take care of us. 38:08 no Paul is in a prison in Rome and will soon be killed by the Emperor Nero. The only person with him is Luke, the author of the gospel of Luke and Acts. Paul begins to write Timothy, his son in the faith, to tell him he misses him and would love to see him one more time. He tells Timothy to not be ashamed of his chains like the other guys and he explains how they all left him alone, but he also tells Timothy, "You too, will suffer like me so keep in mind that God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self control." Timothy would soon be on his own, without his teacher. Would he buckle with fear? By the way, Timothy, a fairly new convert to Jesus, would be going alone. Is there any fear in Timothy? If so, he didn’t let him stop him from doing what Paul asked! He went to Thessalonica, he met with the believers there, and he came back to Corinth and reported to Paul about what he discovered from his visit. As a follower of Jesus, can we have fear? Absolutely...but, it’s what we do with that fear. Do we let that fear hold us back from being obedient? They are out there rowing for their lives for hours while Jesus watched from the mountainside. He knew they were struggling and he allowed them to struggle! He didn’t keep them from the storm and he didn’t immediately comer to their rescue! When he did show up, he still didn’t calm the storm and his disciples didn’t even recognize him, even after Jesus spoke to them! They thought he was a ghost and Peter wanted proof so he asked to walk out to him in the storm. When Jesus got in the boat with them he asked, “Why did you doubt me?” It’s a question we all have to ask because we do the same thing the disciples did. Several of these men were experienced on the water, they had been on this lake fishing their whole lives, but they were full of fear because this was out of their control and they thought they were about to die. Out of fear and desperation, they turn to Jesus and ask him to save them. For some people, no matter how much they have seen and heard about Jesus, it will take a storm.
