Let's face it...life sometimes is hard and can just suck. When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! And yet He did...willingly, therefore we find our hope in Him.

There were two guys names Jesus when Jesus the Messiah was on trial before Pilate: Jesus the Messiah and Jesus Barabbas. Jesus Barabbas' name means "Son of the Father" which is ironic when Jesus the Messiah is THE Son of the Father! Jesus Barrabas was a murderer for he had risen up against the Roman government to over throw it but was unsuccessful in his attempt; captured and jailed for killing. Jesus the Messiah was 100% innocent, he has done nothing wrong, and the religious leaders has been hurling accusations at him while Jesus stood before Pilate in silence. There was a custom in that day to release a prisoner so Pilate asked the crowd, "Who should I release?" The crowd yelled, "Release Jesus Barabbas and crucify Jesus the Messiah!" Pilate was shook and taken back; he tried to get out of it but couldn't because the crowd was getting restless, for they had been persuaded by the religious leaders to choose Jesus the Messiah. Because he feared the crowd and wanted to plead them, Pilate released Jesus Barabbas and crucified an innocent man, Jesus the Messiah.

John the Baptizer is out in the wilderness preaching the forgiveness of sins, telling people to repent and to be baptized. They were listening and responding to his message as people came from all over. Jhon gets a special visitor one day: Jesus and Jesus tells John to baptize him, not for the forgiveness of sins because Jesus didn’t have any sin, but to kick off his ministry. When Jesus came out of the water, the Spirit descended on him and a voice came from heaven saying, “This is My beloved son whom I am well pleased.” The Father gives affirmation to the son. Dads, affirmation is important to your children, especially your sons! Have you told them you love them today? When is the last time you told your children that you are proud of them and believe in them?

A big thing in our culture is “You have your truth and I have mine,” and what has happened is we have decided what is truth for ourselves. We have decided to do what we want and lie the way we want and to justify it, we make up our own rules and call them “truth.” Pilate asked Jesus, “What is truth?” when he was questioning him before crucifying him. The truth of the matter is, there is a standard of truth that never changes and that truth is God whether we choose to believe Him or not. He set the standard and it’s up to us to believe it, and by faith, lie by it. Sure you can reject the standard, He gives us the freedom to make that choice, but just know there is a day coming when we will suffer the consequences of rejecting God’s truth, Jesus.

Right there with the parable of the lost sheep and the lost coin is the parable of the prodigal son. It is one of the most misused parables because, in context, it's really about the older brother and how they represent the Pharisees who are mad over the people Jesus in ministering to. The context for this parable as well as the other parables Jesus tells in Luke 14-16 is set up in Luke 14 when Jesus was invited to a Pharisee's house and he wants to get them to understand how they have blown their responsibilities as the religious leaders that were to be the example of God to the people. They were shunning the very people they were to be ministering to and would have nothing to do with them because they thought they were better and above them. Jesus used the brother who squandered everything to show the heart of the Father and the brother who stayed at home to show the heart of the Pharisees. Which are you?
