Let's face it...life sometimes is hard and can just suck. When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! And yet He did...willingly, therefore we find our hope in Him.

In establishing his authority and defending it to the churches in Galatia, Paul makes a profound statement, “But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace.” Paul makes it clear that he did not choose this life that he lives, God chose it for him. He was a bad dude that loved God. He was a Pharisee, knew God’s word, and he had a zeal for God like nobody else! However, it was misguided zeal for he took it and persecuted the church thinking he was doing God a favor. In his fleshly way of thinking, he thought he was defending God and keeping this blasphemous message about Jesus from spreading but God had a different plan. Jesus happened and it radically changed Paul’s life!

James says, "If you are wise, prove it by living an honorable life and doing good works from humility." He is talking to believers who wanted to be teachers in the church but could not control their mouths. Why? Because they are allowing their flesh to control their actions; their hearts are full of jealousy and selfish ambition. James says godly wisdom is pure, peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. Which describes you? Are you controlled by the flesh or by the Spirit? What is coming from your heart? How do you know? Ask a friend, your spouse, a coworker...they'll tell you what is coming from your mouth because that is really your heart!

"If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Wise words spoken by Thumper on the Bambi movie. Our tongue is so small, compared to the rest our body, it is tiny but oh how powerful it is! James says it's a fire that can spread like a wild fire and set a whole field on fire. Once words have been spoken, they are out there and can't be put back into our mouths. What are we speaking? James says we bless God and curse our fellow brothers and sisters with the same mouth! Listen quickly but be slow to speak. Think before you speak. Be positive, speak blessings, speak life, speak Jesus...

Do you get angry easily? Are you ready to snap at the drop of a hat? Anger is a fruit of the flesh, not the Spirit! James makes it a point to say, “Be SLOW to anger!” How can we do that? By doing what he says just before that, “Be QUICK to listen and be SLOW to speak.” The problem with many people is we barely listen, we hear what we want to, and we are thinking about a response as the person is talking. And as soon as they take a breath, no matter if they are finished talking, we interrupt and yell our concerns at them! That is not from God my friends...it’s from the flesh. How can we live according to the Spirit of God and let Him lead us? It’s a simple as being in the word and obeying what God says on a daily basis. God has given us a choice; we can read His word and obey it...or we can read His word and do our own thing. However, if we live according to our flesh, if we try to have a Savior without the cross, if we haven’t crucified our flesh, there will be consequences and they will last for eternity! We may be able to fool a lot of people, but we will NEVER fool God!

Paul makes it clear that we have no excuse to deny God. The reason people do deny God exists is because of their own sin, their wickedness. If people admit God created the earth and the heavens, then they would be held accountable for their choices, they would have to deal with the consequences, so it's easier for people to say God does not exist. Therefore, they don't have to worry about any consequences to their choices and they can live any way they please. Instead of worshipping the Creator, they have chosen to worship creation.
