These philosophers would come to town with their fancy speeches trying to persuade young men to become their followers so they could teach them their ways and they too, could sound educated and impress the crowds. They would charge the rich families a fortune to send their children to their school. They have taken the faith they have put in God, in what Jesus has done for them on the cross, and put it in themselves, in their own works, their own righteousness because they are trying to win God’s approval by following the law. Paul says, “You already had God’s approval! How else do you think you were filled with the Holy Spirit? How do you think you were performing miracles?” It is because they had put their faith in God…just like Abraham.
