When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! Yes, he mentions it many times and explains what love is, but why is Paul explaining love to the church at Corinth? It is because they are divided, they are enjoying sin instead of fleeing from it, and they are boasting about their spiritual gifts given to them by the Holy Spirit. Did you know the words he uses to describe love are not adjectives? They are verbs meaning love is an action! Love is something we do on a consistent basis because Paul is going to say, “Love never stops!” Are you loving? He says we are one body that serves the same Lord, worships the same God, and is filled with one Spirit, the Holy Spirit that comes from the One True God we worship! He uses the foot, the hand, the ear, the eyes, and the nose to prove his point. What’s his point? That each body part is necessary for the body to function properly. If a foot is missing, it’s harder to walk; if an hand is missing, it’s harder to grasp things etc. each person in the body of Christ has been given a gift, or gifts, by the Holy Spirit and it is crucial for them to be present when the church meets to function properly. When one suffers, we all suffer. You have a gift the I do not and vice versa. We need each other, to encourage one another to continue in our walk with Jesus. We work together, not against one another. The body is not divided, like the church at Corinth, but it was designed to work together, to produce nutrients and waste. When the product is done, like a blanket, it can be used because the single strand of yarn has been knitted together, twisted together, and has become strong. Paul tells the church at Colosse he wants them to be encouraged and knit together by the love of Christ. We need to be involved in one another’s lives so we can be knitted together.
