<description>Let's face it...life sometimes is hard and can just suck. When we are faced with life's challenges we can be discouraged, get tired, and become weary. What we need is motivation, encouragement, and a helping hand that keeps us going. That's the idea of GRINDIT! We find our strength to endure when we focus on Jesus. God's own Son wasn't exempt from life's challenges and He didn't do anything to deserve what he went through! And yet He did...willingly, therefore we find our hope in Him.

<itunes:subtitle>We put a lot of time and effort for a trophy, to accomplish many things, goals, etc, but how much time and effort do we put in Jesus, getting to know him and serve him?</itunes:subtitle>

<description>Do you have a lot of trophies sitting around? Do you bask in all your accomplishments over the years? Do you tell the stories when your friends come over of how you got those trophies? Paul gives his resume of how he accomplished a lot of stuff as a Jew, how he was very zealous for God and kept the law faultlessly, yet without Jesus they were nothing but trash. The word literally means “Thrown out to the dogs.” He says, “Anything I have accomplished outside of Jesus is worthless, it’s garbage and needs to be thrown out. Think of all the time and effort put into your accomplishments. What if we put the same effort in our relationship with Jesus? Wow! How powerful the church would be!

<description>We continue looking at the parables Jesus used to teach the crowds so they could try and understand what it was like to follow him. In this episode of the GRINDIT Podcast, we take a look at two parables: the hidden treasure and the pearl. In both of these parables someone is searching for something. One treasure hunter has heard about a certain buried treasure in a field so he goes looking for it. When he finds it, he reburies it, goes and sells everything he has so he can purchase the field, and now the treasure is now his. In the second, a merchant who deals in pearls is always looking for that one pearl that is worth a lot of money, the mother pearl if you will. If they could just find that one pearl, their life would be complete. Many people are still looking for that pearl but what they don’t realize is that pearl is Jesus, that treasure is Jesus. He is worth giving up everything to follow. He should be THE most important thing in our life. What is that pearl, that treasure you seek? However you answer that question, if it’s not Jesus, that is the very thing that is keeping you from following him which is called an idol. What is your soul worth? What is so important, so precious to you that you aren’t willing to give it up to follow Jesus?

<itunes:subtitle>Jesus told his disciples their righteousness must exceed that of the Pharisees.</itunes:subtitle>

<description>Jesus gives his disciples some things to focus on that will help them exceed beyond the righteousness of the Pharisees. He gives them two “Don’t do’s” and three “When you’s”. These are very important because he had just told them that if their righteousness does not exceed that of the Pharisees, they cannot enter into heaven so he uses what they do as an example of what not to do if you are his disciple. He covers, doing good deeds, giving, praying, fasting, and storing treasure. We break these down in this podcast.
